In the Ladakh region of the Himalayas, Kang Yatse (6,496 meters) (21,312 ft) is located in Markha Valley’s end. This mountain has been divided into two summits, Kang Yatse II, the lower western peak, and Kang Yatse I, the higher eastern peak. The two peaks are approachable from Mid-June to September end. There are two prime routes to reach the peak. The first route is by trekking via Markha Valley and through the village Hankar, Markha and Skiu. Another starts from the village of Shang Sumdo and climbs up the Markha Gorge and then climbs the Gongmaru La, 5130-meter-high pass.

Climbing Kang Yatse II is easier in comparison to the main peak and doesn’t need any technical training or mountaineering skills. The peak of East Karakoram is clearly visible from the top of the peak on a sunny day. On the other hand, Kang Yatse I need to set up an intermediate base camp since the climb is technical, the last 500 meters of the peak is highly steep and needs ropes.
